Patrimonio Musical Español, a collection published by Editorial Alpuerto with support from Caja Madrid, features some of the most interesting original scores from 16th- to 18th-century Spanish music.

Many of the works in the collection are from the Archivo Histórico del Monte de Piedad de Madrid.

Here they are available for the first time in critical edition, by most outstanding Spanish musicologists such as Juan José Carreras, Luis Robledo or Alvaro Torrente.

The titles available at our website are: La música del monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, 16th century, edition by Paulino Capdepón Verdú; Oficio de difuntos a tres y cinco coros de Sebastián Durón (1660-1726), edition by Pablo Rodríguez; El manuscrito Mackworth de cantatas españolas, early 18th century, edition by Juan José Carreras; Tonos a lo Divino y a lo Humano en el Madrid Barroco, 16th-17th centuries, edition by Luis Robledo; and Fiesta de Navidad en la Capilla Real de Felipe V by Francisco Courcelle (Corselli) (1702-1778), edition by Alvaro Torrente

Pippi Langstrum, the musical, now in spanish

Posted by Marcel Soleda on January 28, 2008  |  Leave a comment

Following its successful release in Catalan, Pippi Lansgtrump, Cuento con canciones, a musical based on the character “Pippi Longstocking”, is now available in Spanish. The Pippi character was invented by Astrid Lindgren in 1941 in order to entertain her 7-year-old daughter who was suffering a lung infection. The first Pippi book was published in 1945 by Rabén & Sjögren, who saw in Pippi’s seditious humour an anecdote for the bleakness of the child’s world in post WWII Europe. Soon the girl with red braids gained international fame, and reached the height of her popularity in the 1970s with her own television series. Pippi still retains her power to charm children round the world today.

This narrated version is based on Lindgren’s adaptation for the stage with music by Georg Riedel, first performed in Spain by the Lazzigags company with Lidia Linuesa in the role of Pippi.

Ainhoa Arteta and Sir Neville Marriner perform Arriaga

Posted by Redacción on January 28, 2008  |  2 Comments

The figure of Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga (1806-1826) has gained renewed recognition in recent years thanks to the celebration of the bicentennial of his birth. This new recording from Tritó catalogue, provides a view of different stages of his brief but very prolific and interesting career as a composer, including pieces never before recorded. Among them we find Arriaga’s first and last symphonic works, both in the characteristic overture form of the period: Overture in F major, “Nonetto”, op. 1 and Overture in D major, op. 20. The CD also includes one of the best known works by Arriaga, Symphony in D minor, composed when he was fourteen years old and already residing in Paris, and a piece that did much to establish the composer’s reputation.

Rounding out the CD is Herminie Cantata for soprano and orchestra, which despite the title is a one-person dramatic scene, with lyrics taken from Tasso’s Gerusalemme Liberata. The enthralling Ainhoa Arteta provides the voice.

The union of two great names in classical music – the conductor Sir Neville Marriner and Ainhoa Arteta, one of the most celebrated sopranos of our day – with the Cadaqués Orchestra, recorded live at the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastián during the 2006 Quincena Musical Donostiarra, make this CD essential listening for anyone interested in (discovering) Arriaga.

Release of the first title from the Maestros of Girona Collection

Tritó announces the launch of the Mestres Gironins collection, a joint project with the Diputación Provincial de Girona and the Town Council of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The first release, now available, is “Impressions simfòniques” by the composer Juli Garreta (1875-1925).

This ambitious collection seeks to highlight the often unknown works of composers linked to the Catalan city of Girona and whose works are held in the city’s historic archives. Mestres Gironins will include the complete works of Juli Garreta. The next name in the collection will be Josep Gaz (1656-1713), chapel master of the Girona cathedral.

We hope that with this collection the music of Girona, its cathedral and archives will receive the credit it deserves.
