Posted by Redacción on April 3, 2008  |  Leave a comment

This 9 April, 2008, the prestigious Musikverein in Vienna hosts a concert dedicated to the chamber works of Benet Casablancas. The event features the Barcelona ensemble Barcelona 216 with the actor Carlos Hipólito as reciter, under the direction of Manuel Valdivieso. The concert is part of the Spanien Modern cycle, promoted by the Cervantes Institute of Vienna, with support from the Ramón Llull Institute. The programme comprises the following works: New Epigrams, In modo di Passacaglia, Celebració-Scherzino and “Escenas de Hamlet”. All of these works were recorded recently by the same performers for an upcoming CD. The music of Benet Casablancas, last year’s winner of the Catalan National Music Prize, enjoys growing international diffusion. As of late, his works have been performed in Germany, Switzerland, Venezuela, France, Sweden, United States, Peru, El Salvador, Turkey, England, Belgium and Holland. In recordings, two releases of Casablancas’ works are imminent: his complete works for piano, performed by J. Masó and M. Villalba (NAXOS), and his orchestration of  “Cinc Cançons i Danses by Frederic Mompou”, performed by the Orquesta Filarmonia de Galicia conducted by A. Ros-Marbà (WARNER). Another recording – of the orchestral pieces The Dark Backward of Time, Tres Epigramas, Postludio, Poema d´amor and Intrada sobre el nom de DALI performed by the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i National de Catalunya with Ofèlia Sala and conducted by Salvador Mas – has been completed.

Isaac Albéniz, Poèmes d’amour

Posted by Redacción on March 6, 2008  |  Leave a comment

A joint project by the Cadaqués Orchestra and Tritó Edicions has brought back to life an all but forgotten work by Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909). A new CD recording and edition of the score, with parts for rent, of Poèmes d’Amour are now available from our website.

“Poèmes d’Amour”, composed in 1892, is a work for recitalist or rhapsodist with chamber ensemble that Isaac Albéniz structured around fourteen poems by the French Symbolist Armand Sylvestre (1837-1901). It premiered on 29 June, 1892, in London with one of the most famed actresses of all times, Sarah Bernhardt, reciting. Over the years the work was largely forgotten. Now the prestigious conductor and musicologist José de Eusebio has edited the score. De Eusebio is the world’s top specialist in Albéniz’s work and for years has been dedicating himself to the composer’s stage works such as “Merlín”, “Henry Clifford” and Pepita Jiménez. De Eusebio’s new score is based on the manuscripts held at the Barcelona Music Museum. With this new score, and the recording by the Cadaqués Orchestra, “Poèmes d’Amour” has been rescued from obscurity.

This project would not have been possible without the support of the Fundació Caixa Catalunya, which has joined forces with “Tritó Edicions” and “The Cadaqués Orchestra”. The recovery of patrimony and the revival of the works of our composers, Albéniz, in this case one of the foremost names in Catalan and Spanish music of all times, is always a source of satisfaction, especially when it involves the acclaimed Cadaqués Orchestra, which has long stood out for projects such of this nature.

To celebrate this release, www.trito.es is offering a 15% discount on the CD with score pack.

Brief pieces for piano, by Santiago Lanchares

The piano works of the composer Santiago Lanchares, with exquisite and exhuberant harmony and highly empassioned character, are among the most interesting for this instrument in Spanish contemporary music. Under the generic title of Piezas breves, two of the Palencian composer’s collections of pieces for solo piano are now available: “Cinco amigos”, first written in 1984 and which we might call his Op. 1, were revised thanks to the interest of the pianist Ananda Sukarlan, and serve as an introduction to his works. These pieces are not very demanding technically and thus are apt for teaching material. “Dos piezas para Alicia” were written in the summer of 2003 and are dedicated to Alicia Sukarlan. These works, and others composed before 2005, are available in a monographic edition published by Sello Verso from our webside www.trito.es

Release of Herminie by Arriaga

Herminie, cantata by the composer Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, is the latest release from the Tritó score division. The work, composed in 1825, when the composer was 19 years old, has been revised by Jorge Sancho and this is the first time it has been done in an urtext edition, intended to reproduce the original intention of the composer as exactly as possible, without any added or changed material. The text of the cantata is taken from “Gerusalemme Liberata” by Tasso in the French version by J. A. Vinaty (1790 1830). In the arias and especially in the recitatives we find moments of great dramatic intensity, revealing a composer who employed skilfully the expressive resources of romantic drama, while the orchestra, despite the lack of trumpets or kettledrums, underscores and highlights effectively the expressivity of the singing, which demands a soprano who has both an aptitude for coloratura and great power. This work forms part of the obligatory repertoire for the 9th Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competitionand is available on CD with the soprano Ainhoa Arteta and The Cadaqués Orchestra conducted by Neville Marriner.

Manantial de luz by Jesús Torres selected by the UER

Each year RNE Radio Clásica selects works for the European Broadcasting Union, and this year’s selection includes Manantial de luz by Jesús Torres. This work was commissioned by the Spanish Centre for the Diffusion of Contemporary Music (CDMC) for its Residencias season and premiered 11 June, 2007. This is a concertante work for piano and six instruments performed by the Ensemble Residencias, on this occasion comprising Trío Arbós, Juanjo Guillem, José Luis Estellés and Paul Cortese. Torres’ music is among the most lucid of our day, in terms of the rigour of his writing and the clarity of his ideas. This selection includes the most outstanding – in terms of performance or musical interest – concerts broadcast and recorded by Radio Clásica. The works selected by the EBU jury will be broadcast by member public radios, thus contributing to the diffusion of contemporary Spanish music.

Ainhoa Arteta and Sir Neville Marriner perform Arriaga

The figure of Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga (1806-1826) has gained renewed recognition in recent years thanks to the celebration of the bicentennial of his birth. This new recording from Tritó catalogue, provides a view of different stages of his brief but very prolific and interesting career as a composer, including pieces never before recorded. Among them we find Arriaga’s first and last symphonic works, both in the characteristic overture form of the period: Overture in F major, “Nonetto”, op. 1 and Overture in D major, op. 20. The CD also includes one of the best known works by Arriaga, Symphony in D minor, composed when he was fourteen years old and already residing in Paris, and a piece that did much to establish the composer’s reputation.

Rounding out the CD is Herminie Cantata for soprano and orchestra, which despite the title is a one-person dramatic scene, with lyrics taken from Tasso’s Gerusalemme Liberata. The enthralling Ainhoa Arteta provides the voice.

The union of two great names in classical music – the conductor Sir Neville Marriner and Ainhoa Arteta, one of the most celebrated sopranos of our day – with the Cadaqués Orchestra, recorded live at the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastián during the 2006 Quincena Musical Donostiarra, make this CD essential listening for anyone interested in (discovering) Arriaga.

Manuel Castillo and Antonio José, Tritó novelties

As part of our efforts to revive 20th-century Spanish symphonic music, Tritó now offers  “Sinfonía Castellana” by Antonio José, a rare example of orchestral savior faire from this great musician who died in the Civil War. This publication is fruit of an agreement with FUNDACIÓN SIGLO of the Regional Government of Castilla y León. On the other hand, as part of an agreement signed with the Junta de Andalucía for the publication of the catalogue of the late Manuel Castillo, Tritó has just released Castillo’s “Sinfonia nº 1″ and “Concierto para piano y orquesta”, which will facilitate the diffusion of the music by the Sevillian composer, one of the lesser known figures of the generation of the 1951. Finally, Tritó’s catalogue of contemporary composers has been enlarged with the addition of “Lumières abyssales – Chroma I” for orchestra by Hèctor Parra; “Wasserfall” and “Memento” for piano by Jesús Torres, in addition to “Verwandlung” by David Padrós for flute quartet.

Tritó announces the release of the second edition of Granados Obra completa para canto y piano. With both impressions of the first edition having sold out, Tritó has now released a new updated edition, with the nine recently discovered songs. In addition, in order to facilitate its interpretation, the new edition includes the phonetic transcription of all the lyrics.
