Tirant Lo Blanc, by Antoni Ros Marbà, published by Amalgama

Posted by Marcel Soleda on April 16, 2008  |  Leave a comment

Tirant lo Blanc was composed in 1975 by Antoni Ros-Marbá and Nuria Albó to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Secretariat of “Children’s Choirs of Catalonia”. The work is based on the eponymous chivalrous romance by the Valencian writer Joan Martorell, the first proto-novel published in the West and a key piece in world literature.

The score was written as a cantata for narrator, children’s choir and orchestra and is inspired in some of the best known motifs from the story of “Tirant lo Blanc”. In order to broaden the range of its interpretation and reach among the public and music professionals, Tritó is also publishing a version for chamber orchestra.

Pippi Langstrum, the musical, now in spanish

Posted by Marcel Soleda on January 28, 2008  |  Leave a comment

Following its successful release in Catalan, Pippi Lansgtrump, Cuento con canciones, a musical based on the character “Pippi Longstocking”, is now available in Spanish. The Pippi character was invented by Astrid Lindgren in 1941 in order to entertain her 7-year-old daughter who was suffering a lung infection. The first Pippi book was published in 1945 by Rabén & Sjögren, who saw in Pippi’s seditious humour an anecdote for the bleakness of the child’s world in post WWII Europe. Soon the girl with red braids gained international fame, and reached the height of her popularity in the 1970s with her own television series. Pippi still retains her power to charm children round the world today.

This narrated version is based on Lindgren’s adaptation for the stage with music by Georg Riedel, first performed in Spain by the Lazzigags company with Lidia Linuesa in the role of Pippi.
