Presentation of two monographic CDs by Charles and Casablancas

Next Friday 3 December, at 12:30, will see the presentation of two monographic CDs: Elapsed Memories, by Agustí Charles, and Complete String Quartets and Trio, by Benet Casablancas. The act will be held at the Club Social of the headquarters of the Sgae Group in Catalonia (Passeig Colom, 6).

Ramon Muntaner, Llorenç Caballero, director of Tritó Edicions, and the composers themselves, Benet Casablancas and Agustí Charles, will speak at the presentation.

The work of the composer and musicologist Casablancas was recorded in the chamber music hall of the Auditori de Girona on 27, 28 and 29 July 2009 with the collaboration of the SGAE and the Fundació Autor, and consists of five pieces of music: Five interludes -quasi variazioni- (1983), String quartet no. 2 (1991), String trio (1992), Encore for Arditti (2004) and String quartet no. 3 -Raging in the Dark- (2009).

On the other hand, in September 2009 at the Auditori de Barcelona, the OBC under the baton of Jaime Martín recorded three orchestral works by the composer Agustí Charles: Elapsed Memories (2006), Double Variations (1994) and Effigies II (1998).

The ARS Musica Festival in Brussels gives the music of Hector Parra a warm reception

The 20th ARS Musica Festival in Brussels has confirmed its position as one of the most important in the ambit of contemporary music. From 10 March to 10 April some of the best-known names on the contemporary scene will pass through the Belgian capital.

The composer Hèctor Parra, confirming his international projection, has been present at the festival with two concerts and a talk. The Arditti Quartet premiered his work “Leaves of reality” on 12 March and the Brussels Philarmonic conducted by Michel Tabachnik performed one of his latest works for orchestra, “Lumières Abyssales-Chroma”.

ARRELS / STRING QUARTET No. 1

Tritó has just released two works by Joan Guinjoan, the fantasia for cobla Arrels (roots) and String Quartet No. 1. The two formations, cobla and string quartet, represent new ground in Guijoan’s prolific career.

Structured in three movements, Arrels evokes musical moments with deep ties to the composer’s childhood. Quartet de corda núm. 1 is a complex work of vast instrumental brilliance, with the demanding character typical of Guinjoan’s oeuvre.

Jordi Masó premieres a work by Jesús Torres

As part of the season Nous Sons at the Auditori de Barcelona, the young pianist from Granollers (Barcelona) premiered …i l’infant dorm by the Spanish composer Jesús Torres, in a programme of small-format works in tribute to the late Joaquim Homs. The concert included, among other works Tombeau by Benet Casablancas, and Instants by David Padrós.

Also within the Nous Sons season, on Saturday 17 March, the Ensemble Proxima Centauri performed Ciel rouillé by Héctor Parra, and on 24 March the Arditti String Quartet will be performing String Quartet No. 2 by Benet Casablancas, and String Quartet No. 1 by Joan Guinjoan, all published by Tritó.

The Arditti Quartet perform Jesús Rueda

“Britain’s Arditti Quartet played a monographic programme of Rueda’s works at the 20th Alicante International Contemporary Music Festival. The Quartet interpreted Quartet Nº 1, Quartet Nº 2 Desde las sombras, el Quartet Nº 3 Islas (world premiere) and, accompanied by the pianist Ananda Sukarlan, the quintet with piano Bitácora.

Meanwhile, Rueda dedicated an arrangement of his Quartet No. 3 “Islas” to the Reina Sofía Chamber Orchestra on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the ensemble’s founding , with the premiere slated for the near future.”
